Thanks to the team over at Broadsheet for sharing Courtesy of the Artist’s RARE EARTH: AUSTRALIAN MADE story on their website last week.

“Rare Earth: Australian Made is a collection of pieces by three resident jewellers that celebrates Australian stones. Cesar Cueva, Cinnamon Lee and Marina Antoniou are resident jewellers at Courtesy of the Artist, a contemporary jewellery/object store/exhibition space that has been showcasing and mentoring designers for 10 years. Gemstones come in and out of vogue. Rare Earth is an attempt at rebuilding an appreciation of these stones and the stories that surround them.” – Elisha Kennedy, Broadsheet

Over the past few months I have been working with a selection of Australian white opals, sapphires and diamonds to create a series of rings, earrings and necklaces for a new collection of Australian gemstone jewellery. This collection is called RARE EARTH: AUSTRALIAN MADE and it launches at Courtesy of the Artist in the Strand Arcade next week! Visit the Courtesy of the Artist website or have a read below.

Pictured: 18 carat yellow gold studs with two white opals from Andamooka in South Australia.

Courtesy of the Artist is thrilled to be celebrating ten years in the Australian design industry this year and what better way to kick off this milestone than with a focus on the Australian gemstone.

Our journey to sourcing the most prized gems will be launched on April 16 with an exhibition of new jewellery. This show will be the first of many showcasing Australian gemstones, and it’s one we’re personally very excited about.

Over the coming months, we will be travelling to the heartland of Australia, directly to the source of some our most precious gems and meeting with the individuals who fossik for them and the stone cutters who sculpt them. We can’t wait to share these stories with you as we delve even deeper into our relationships with our makers.

The line up on display for RARE EARTH: AUSTRALIAN MADE includes white diamonds, cognac diamonds, octahedron diamonds and macle diamonds from the Argyle Mine, as well as rough yellow diamonds from the Ellendale Mine – both in Western Australia. We also have zircons from the Northern Territory, sapphires, black spinel and topaz from central to northern Queensland and white opals from Andamooka, South Australia.

Our resident artists Cesar Cueva, Cinnamon Lee and Marina Antoniou have married their craftsmanship with these distinctly Australian stones to bring you a collection straight from our beautiful backyard.

We really hope you can join us for the first of our ten year celebrations and enjoy seeing these unique Australian gemstones in a contemporary light.

RARE EARTH: AUSTRALIAN MADE  launches at Courtesy of the Artist on Thursday 16th April 2015 from 6pm – 8pm. Courtesy of the Artist is located at Shop 122, Level 2, The Strand Arcade, 412 – 414 George Street, Sydney, Australia 2000.
