My Marathon
28 August 2017

This October, I am joining forces with the Heart Foundation to help fight the single biggest killer of Australians – heart disease.

As part of My Marathon, I will have 31 days to complete a 42.2km marathon.

For this campaign, my primary goal is awareness. It always is. I hope to use this platform and my voice to remind you all that the best way to look after you heart is with a healthy lifestyle.

In my early 20’s, on two separate occasions, I was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my lungs (aka pulmonary emboli). Years on from my health complications, I feel a responsibility to share my story and connect with others – to give those around me a sense of awareness and hope for future wellness.

For those of you who would like to support further, you can by making a donation. Did you know that for just $42 the Heart Foundation can help one researcher isolate and understand blood cells in order to prevent dangerous blood clots?

Another way of supporting is by purchasing ‘From the Heart’ – a heart inspired necklace I designed to help raise heart health awareness amongst women. A percentage of every sale goes directly to the National Heart Foundations Women and Heart Disease campaign – a cause very close to my heart.

If through my voice and efforts I can help stop one other Australian from experiencing heart related illness, then my job here is done.

Marina Antoniou Rose Gold Heart Necklace From the Heart Heart Foundation

Australian opal ring Marina Antoniou Rare Earth: Australian Made

Last month, Courtesy of the Artist launched the third instalment of Rare Earth: Australian Made. This stunning showcase featured new jewellery by resident artists Cinnamon Lee, Cesar Cueva, Todd Turner, Emma Fielden, Fealofani Elisara and myself.

All six artists created new jewellery which celebrated Australia’s most unique and rare gems. For this showcase, I worked with crystal opal from Andamooka in South Australia (which I sourced on my visit to Andamooka last year!), boulder opal from Bulgroo in Queensland, sapphires from Rubyvale, Queensland, sapphires from Tasmania, Argyle diamonds from Western Australia as well as the most beautiful natural turquoise from Central Australia.

Also part of this showcase was a display of fresh Australian natives by Nina Cueva, the rarest of gemstones by Doug Menadue, a custom scent by Ainslie Walker and the most exquisite ceramics by Avi Amesbury.

You can view my collection on my website here. All pieces are available to purchase exclusively through Courtesy of the Artist in the Strand Arcade.

The beautiful, kind and incredibly talented Kate Mulvany wore my yellow gold and Australian opal cluster earrings at the Helpmann Awards a few weeks back.

Congratulations Kate for winning Best Actress in a Leading Role for your performance in Bell Shakespeare’s Richard III.

These earrings are now available at Courtesy of the Artist in the Strand Arcade, Sydney.
