“I have been taking inspiration from native seaweeds specifically found on the shores of the NSW south coast for quite a few years now. I’ve spend hours collecting and photographing these findings – sea grapes, neptune’s necklace, bubble weed and more. These ocean treasures and the simple concept of a ‘single grain of sand’, has formed the basis of so many of my designs. Necklaces, rings and earrings feature golden ‘grains of sand’ through granules and tiny, perfectly round claws. Green chrysoprase resembles sea grapes and bubble weed. Warm coloured opals reference the oranges and yellows of lichen clinging onto rocks. Then there are the sapphires, which reference the array of colours found in these native weeds both underwater and washed up onto the shore.”

ABOUT RARE EARTH: AUSTRALIAN MADE

First launched in 2015 by Courtesy of the Artist, Rare Earth: Australian made is a contemporary fine jewellery collection that celebrates Australia’s most coveted gemstones.

“I have a very strong connection to and am continually inspired by the rich biodiversity and natural landscapes of our unique and beautiful country. Over the years, my Rare Earth: Australian Made collections have drawn inspiration from Australia’s natural wonders, in particular those I have had the pleasure of experiencing and exploring first hand. The outback opal mining town of Andamooka, South Australia and my home away from home, the tall coastal forests that edge the shores of the waters of Jervis Bay on the NSW south coast continually inspire my Rare Earth body of work.”
