Last week I had the experience of appearing on A Current Affair to share my story and my involvement in the Heart Research Institute’s consumer program. It was both exciting and humbling to speak about something so close to my heart and to raise awareness about the vital work being done to improve heart health.
Earlier this year, I had the privilege of designing a special necklace for the HRI which I called “Chronos“, inspired by the idea of time and resilience. Creating it was a meaningful way to contribute creatively to a cause I care so deeply about – and as part of that commitment, 20% of every sale is donated directly to the Heart Research Institute to support their ongoing research.
At the heart of the “Chronos” is the desire to give back and raise awareness for a cause incredibly close to me. If even one person sees the segment, reads an article, shares it or passes it on… and that leads someone to recognise their symptoms, seek help or start a conversation… then I’ve done what I set out to do.
I’m deeply grateful to the Heart Research Institute for the work they do and to everyone involved in the segment – Warren Williams for also sharing his story, the journalists, the crew and all those who encouraged me to share my voice. And to Professor Julie McMullen … I’m grateful to have shared this experience with someone who is not only brilliant in her field but deeply committed to improving heart health for all of us.
Being involved with the Heart Research Institute has given me insight into the research world and reminded me of the power of community, awareness and how creativity can help tell important stories.
