/  A Custom Sea Grape Ring

I recently had the privilege of making a bespoke Sea Grape cluster ring for a very special client. For this piece, my client wanted Australian sapphires to feature in luscious green tones that mirror the colours she encounters underwater during her morning swims every day. My client shared some words about her inspiration behind the piece. It truly is remarkable when I collaborate in harmony with my clients. Thank you, Lisa, for the honour to create for you and for allowing me to embark on the underwater journey with you.

“The first dive underwater always, in a little way, takes my breath away. Underwater is peaceful and I feel like I enter another little universe of colours and shapes. The way the light shines down through the water illuminating big creamy brown coloured river jellies or the way that a dark moody grey sky sends the water a deep, deep blue. Under water blue Phosphoresce are like tiny bits of floating treasure as you reach out to try and catch one in your hand they disappear like magic. Jimbles, they give a nasty sting but are the most vibrant, translucent hot pink. Blue Bottle, the colour, blue with delicate shades of green and sometimes pink. The colours of the sunrise they change every morning from reds and oranges to blues and purples. Look away and you’ll miss it. The sun lights up our faces bobbing on top of the water. I love our faces like this.

There are seaweed patches that we swimmers call the grassy knoll. This my favourite seaweed. Every time I swim over it I have to run my hands through the blades, on a low tide I try to glide my body over the tips of it. I watch it sway back and forth in the currents. The colour is insane and totally Australian. It is the colour that to me represents Australian green and gold. Not just green and not just gold but both.

For the rest of the day I wear salt on my skin and sand in my shoes. I like that.”
