FROM THE HEART
“It’s no coincidence that this stylised, heart shaped pendant by Sydney jeweller Marina Antoniou rests just above human heart. The pendant is Marina’s way of starting a conversation about cardiovascular disease, with which she was diagnosed aged 22” – Francis Mocnik, Australian Finacial Review Magazine.
‘From the Heart’ for the Heart Foundation is a collection of jewellery inspired by the ideas of connection, support and balance – three things that helped me go from struggle to strength in my own personal health journey. In my early 20’s, on two separate occasions, I was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my lungs (pulmonary emboli). My health issue were triggered by a combination of an underlying genetic blood clotting conditions and taking the oral contraceptive pill. As a result, I am on blood thinners for life. Years on from these complications, I feel a responsibility to share my story, connect with others, and give those around me a sense of awareness and hope for future wellness.
Cardiovascular disease is the single biggest killer of Australian women and is currently claiming the lives of 20 Australian women per day, affecting women of all ages in many different forms. With this collection of jewellery, I hope to educate women about the importance of their own cardiovascular health and remind them of the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease. I also hope to bring light and positivity to those that have been personally touched by heart disease.
For each ‘From the Heart’ piece sold, I donate a portion of the sale price to the National Heart Foundation‘s Women and Heart Disease campaign. To find out more about my health journey, you can watch my story here.
