Today, I want to share the story behind the Seagrass Meadow Necklace. This piece features a beautifully arranged cluster of all-Australian gemstones—sapphires from Rubyvale in Central Queensland, turquoise from Ammarroo in the Northern Territory, and a single white Argyle diamond from the East Kimberley in Western Australia—all set in 18ct yellow gold.

This necklace and the rest of the Seagrass Meadow story in my collection NEPTUNE features elongated shapes and baguette stones, inspired by blades of seagrass in underwater meadows. Pairings of dark and light sapphires with diamonds and turquoise cabochons reflect the journey of moving underwater, swimming through cool waters, dappled light and shade on the sea meadow floor.

What makes this necklace truly special though is how it connects to its origins. I chose to photograph it here alongside its rough counterparts, emphasising the raw beauty of these rare Australian gemstones that often go overlooked. Each gemstone has its own unique journey, and I believe it’s important to tell the stories behind them.

By showcasing them in their unrefined state, I hope to celebrate the dedication of those who uncover and cut these treasures. Each stone’s transformation reflects not just its physical journey, but also the passion and hard work involved in bringing it to life.

As one of the few jewellers in Australia dedicated to working with an exclusive and diverse range of local gemstones, I’m proud to create pieces like this necklace that honour the integrity and authenticity of Australia’s natural gemstones.
